Mt. Eden soccer player Sophia Muñoz is the Bay Area News Group’s girls high school athlete of the week for Dec. 1-6.
In online voting that ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Muñoz had 45.3% of the vote. James Logan basketball player Iwalani Lealao finished second at 29.9% and Carlmont basketball player Justine Desmidt took third at 18.5%.
Congratulations to all the candidates for this week’s recognition.
Muñoz, a freshman, scored all four of her team’s goals in a 4-1 win over Irvington and added a goal in a loss to Freedom. She has scored all seven of Mt. Eden’s goals through three games.

Votes by email do not count. Only votes submitted through the online poll on the Mercury News and East Bay Times websites will count.
