Beach hazards statement in place for Bay Area Shorelines from Wednesday to Friday

Coastal North Bay including Point Reyes National Seashore, San Francisco Peninsula Coast, Northern Monterey Bay and Southern Monterey Bay and Big Sur Coast as well as San Francisco County are under a beach hazards statement which was released by the National Weather Service on Tuesday at 2:45 a.m. The statement is valid from Wednesday 7 a.m. until Friday Dec. 12, at 10 p.m.

The NWS San Francisco CA states to be ready for, “Long period westerly swell will result in strong rip currents, sneaker waves, and breaking waves of 12 to 16 feet.”

“Sneaker waves can unexpectedly run significantly farther up the beach than normal, including over rocks and jetties. Rip currents are typically stronger in the vicinty of jetties, inlets, and piers,” the NWS said. “Stay off the rocks and NEVER turn your back on the ocean!”
