Beach hazards statement in place for Los Angeles County until 3 a.m. Monday
Malibu, Los Angeles County Beaches, Palos Verdes Peninsula and Ventura County Beaches are included in a beach hazards statement issued by the National Weather Service on Saturday at 1:14 a.m. The statement is valid from 9 a.m. until Monday June 16, at 3 a.m.
The NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA states to be ready for, “A long period south swell will bring elevated surf up to 5 – 6 feet to south and southwest facing beaches, along with dangerous rip currents.”
“There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Waves can wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats nearshore,” according to the NWS. “Remain out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks.”
