Bears CB Jaylon Johnson practices in full, ‘looks like he hasn’t missed a step’

Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson practiced in full Thursday for the first time since having groin surgery, making a return to game action Sunday a possibility.

“He looks like he hasn’t missed a step,” cornerback Tyrique Stevenson said. “Definitely excited to have him back. …

“Dunno when he’ll play, hopefully this week or next week.”

Playing Sunday against the Steelers would be somewhat surprising, given that the Bears travel to face the Eagles five days later and might not want to stress Johnson with that kind of workload. The Bears opened his 21-day practice window on Nov. 14 and have two more weeks to return him to the 53-man roster or shut him down for the year.

The Bears opened slot cornerback Kyler Gordon’s window Wednesday as he recovers from a calf injury. Both could be back by December.

“Just having them back means that the band is back,” Stevenson said.

Johnson missed all of training camp with a groin injury, returned for Week 2 but couldn’t make it through the game. Gordon has played only two games this year.

The Bears don’t allow players on IR to speak to the media.

“Getting those guys back out on the field and getting them going, I think, is going to help our defense,” defensive coordinator Dennis Allen said. “So we’re excited about having them out there. Both those guys look good right now. So, anxious about getting them on the field.”

LBs MIA

The Bears continue to practice without any of their three starting linebackers.

Tremaine Edmunds (groin), T.J. Edwards (hamstring) and Noah Sewell (elbow) all sat out Thursday’s practice. Edwards isn’t expected to play, while Edmunds and Sewell are recovering from injuries suffered Sunday against the Vikings.

Running backs Roschon Johnson (thumb) and Travis Homer (hamstring/knee) were also out. Safety Jaquan Brisker practiced in full after missing Wednesday’s practice because of a shoulder problem. He hurt it colliding with Stevenson, who was limited in practice with hip and back problems.

Four of the Bears’ five starting offensive linemen are on the injury report. Left tackle Theo Benedet (quad) was added Thursday declared limited, while right tackle Darnell Wright was limited for the second straight day. He had a pec injury Wednesday and had a back problem added Thursday. Center Drew Dalman was limited with a knee problem and guard Joe Thuney got a veteran rest day.
