Bears coach Ben Johnson thinking bigger than playoff seeding heading into game vs. Lions on Sunday

The Bears have significant incentive to beat the Lions on Sunday in their final game of the regular season, but even if they didn’t, coach Ben Johnson wants to keep his foot on the gas.

With a victory, the Bears would secure the No. 2 seed and at least two home games in the playoffs should they advance. They also can get that if the Eagles lose to the Commanders. If the Bears lose and Eagles win, the Bears would fall to the three seed.

For Johnson, though, the higher priority is continuing the upward trajectory.

“We’re constantly improving — that’s the goal, at least,” he said Wednesday. “We’re going to stay true to our process throughout this thing. This is the next one. Certainly coming off [the loss to the 49ers], too, you don’t want to go into the postseason with two losses in a row. You want to have a little momentum.”

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni, meanwhile, appears to be planning to rest his starters against the Commanders, and Lions coach Dan Campbell left some gray area. Campbell said his team will play to win, but he’ll lean toward sitting anyone who is questionable with an injury.

Johnson is intent on the Bears going all-in to beat the Lions regardless of what it means in the standings.
Everyone’s excited about the 2025 Bears, and you want to join the fun. Here’s what to know if you just started following the team.
For Bears fans of almost any age, it’s a brand of football they’ve only seen from the wrong side: the fear of giving the other quarterback too much time. This is like a new toy.
