Bears Kevin Byard, Joe Thuney and Drew Dalman named to Pro Bowl Games

Three Bears players were named to the league’s Pro Bowl Games on Tuesday: center Drew Dalman, guard Joe Thuney and safety Kevin Byard.

The all-star honors reflect the 11-4 Bears’ rise in the NFL world this year. They had only one player elected last season — cornerback Jaylon Johnson.

Tuesday marked Dalman’s first Pro Bowl selection. Thuney has now been picked four times, Byard three.

The Bears signed Dalman and traded for Thuney this offseason in an attempt to shore up their offensive line after quarterback Caleb Williams was sacked the third-most times in the history of the NFL last year. Byard, who is in his second season with the Bears, leads the NFL in interceptions.

The Pro Bowl vote is split into thirds: by players, coaches and the fans. The Bears had a whopping 10 players who sat atop their position group at the end of the fan vote Monday.

After abandoning the traditional Pro Bowl game after the 2021 season, the NFL has tinkered with the all-star game format the past few years. This year’s Pro Bowl Games will be a flag football contest between the AFC and NFC on Feb. 3 from the Moscone Center South Building in San Francisco. The Super Bowl will be held in nearby Santa Clara, Calif., five days later.
