Bears LB Tremaine Edmunds activated for Packers game

As expected, the Bears are bringing back Tremaine Edmunds for their rivalry game against the Packers on Saturday night.

They activated the middle linebacker from injured reserve hours before kickoff at Soldier Field. Edmunds missed four games, the minimum allowed on injured reserve, with a groin injury that he suffered last week.

The typically coy Ben Johnson spoke openly this week about Edmunds’ possible return, a sign he was due to be activated. It’s unclear whether Edmunds will be on a limited snap count. His replacement, D’Marco Jackson, was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week after recording a sack and an interception against the Browns.

Edmunds had put together one of the best seasons of his career before the injury. Only five NFL players have intercepted more passes than Edmunds’ four.

The Bears also promoted receiver Maurice Alexander from the practice squad to help fill in for Rome Odunze and Luther Burden, who were ruled out Thursday with foot and ankle injuries, respectively.
