Soldier Field erupted as Bears quarterback Caleb Williams ran out for his first NFL snap, though his first drive against the Titans was underwhelming.
He got the ball at his own 43-yard line, and the Bears opened with a six-yard run by new running back D’Andre Swift. Williams threw a screen pass to DJ Moore for one yard on the next play, then got swarmed on third-and-three and threw an incomplete pass as he scrambled toward the sideline.
The Bears elected to kick off and their defense opened with a three-and-out to set the offense up at its own 43-yard line after the punt.
The Bears have waited more than four months for Williams’ debut since drafting him in late April, though they had their eye on him well before that. Williams won the 2022 Heisman Trophy at USC as Justin Fields struggled for the Bears.
