The Sun-Times’ experts offer their picks for the Bears’ game Monday night against the Commanders (7:15 p.m., ABC 7):
Patrick Finley
Commanders, 28-27: Strange things happen when these two teams meet at Northwest Stadium. In Week 5 of 2023, the Bears snapped a 14-game losing streak hours after learning of the death of Dick Butkus. In Week 8 last year, the Bears bungled a last-season heave so badly the Virgin Mary herself would have looked away. Expect another close one Monday. This year: 3-1
Jason Lieser
Commanders, 34- 27: Beating the Cowboys (2-2-1) and Raiders (1-4) is unconvincing. The Commanders are much better and have the necessary weapons to exploit every Bears’ weakness. This year: 2-2
Mark Potash
Commanders, 23-20: The Bears should be healthier off the bye and poised for the upset in what likely will be an entertaining fourth-quarter showdown between Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels. Home team gets the edge in a Monday night coin flip. This year: 4-0
Scoop Jackson
Commanders, 27-24 (OT): The Commanders have lost two games they were supposed to win and won one they were supposed to lose. This game is one they are supposed to win. Do the new math. It’ll make sense. This year: 2-2
Steve Greenberg
Commanders, 27-20: Jacory Croskey-Merritt hit the Chargers with 7.9 yards per carry, an alarming stat if you’re the Bears. The Commanders also piled up five sacks in an easy win. We can ask “Williams or Daniels?” — it’s a fun topic, as long as you can handle it — but there’s a bigger picture here and the Commanders just plain are closer to where they want to be. This year: 4-0
