Bears put CB Kyler Gordon, OT Braxton Jones on injured reserve ahead of Ravens game

The Bears put nickel cornerback Kyler Gordon on injured reserve Saturday and now will be without their top two corners for extended time.

Gordon apparently injured his groin and calf in practice Thursday and already was ruled out for the game Sunday against the Ravens. Pro Bowl corner Jaylon Johnson and potential starter Terell Smith already are on IR, and starting corner Tyrique Stevenson is out Sunday with a shoulder injury.

The Bears likely will start Nahshon Wright outside, Nick McCloud at nickel and either Josh Blackwell or Jaylon Jones opposite Wright.

Gordon is one of the team’s top defensive players and is the highest paid nickel in the NFL after signing a three-year, $40 million extension before the season. He missed the first four games, however, with a hamstring injury and now will miss at least four more.

The Bears also put backup swing tackle Braxton Jones, originally their starter on the left side, on IR with a knee injury. The soonest Gordon and Jones are eligible to play is Week 12 against the Steelers.

The Bears also signed DT Jonathan Ford to the active roster, making him available against the Ravens.
