Bears put RB Travis Homer on IR, elevate WR Collin Johnson, DE Byron Cowart

The Bears put running back and core special teams player Travis Homer on injured reserve Saturday after he hurt his finger in practice during the week and underwent surgery.

They also elevated wide receiver Collin Johnson and defensive end Byron Cowart from their practice squad for the game against the Colts on Sunday.

Homer played 73% of the team’s snaps on special teams over the first two games. He also played 31 snaps on offense and ran three times for 16 yards. He will miss at least four games while on IR and is eligible to return for the Bears’ Week 8 game against the Commanders.

Johnson got promoted to the roster because wide receiver Keenan Allen is out with a heel injury for the second game in a row. He played against the Texans as well and got one snap on offense and six on special teams.

Cowart played 12 snaps defensively and had one tackle in the opener against the Titans.
