Bears quarterback Caleb Williams was frustrated by some of his errors in the loss to the Texans, and said Wednesday his focus is tightening up his performance ahead of a visit to the Colts on Sunday.
“Play your game,” he said of his mentality. “Play within the way that I need to play for the offense. Be efficient. Make less mistakes each week.”
Williams completed 23 of 37 passes for 174 yards and threw two interceptions against the Texans on Sunday. That followed a rough debut in which he went 14 for 29 for 93 yards, and he has a 53.0 passer rating for the season.
Williams has been sacked a league-high nine times over the first two weeks of the season, and the Bears have additional issues on their offensive line this week. Left guard Teven Jenkins suffered a bruised thigh against the Texans and won’t practice Wednesday, though coach Matt Eberflus was optimistic he’d be available Sunday.
There are some aspects of the offense the Bears can’t fix instantly, but the potential for Williams to improve is their most significant upside.
