Bears QB Caleb Williams: Goal to ‘create history’ starts Saturday vs. Packers

The first public comment quarterback Caleb Williams ever made about the Bears were before they drafted him, when he said his intent was to “create history” by moving them out of their dreary past.

The Bears’ glory days were decades ago. It’s time for some new ones when they host the Packers on Saturday in the first round of the playoffs.

“Part of it was me getting here, coming here, and having that mindset throughout and then getting to this point, being able to go to the playoffs in my second year, Coach’s first year, and to continue that mindset, that energy here in Chicago is important,” Williams said Tuesday. “It’s where we’re at, and it starts this weekend.”

Williams and the Bears split with the Packers during the regular season. They played twice last month, with Williams throwing an interception at the end of the first game in a loss and hitting DJ Moore for a 46-yard touchdown in overtime to win the second.

The Bears are the No. 2 playoff seed in the NFC, and the Packers are seventh. If the Bears win, they would host the Eagles, Panthers or Rams in the divisional round.
