Bears QB Caleb Williams: Jalen Hurts was ‘motivational,’ urged me on

Bears quarterback Caleb Williams first met Jalen Hurts when he was being recruited by Oklahoma and Hurts was starring for the Sooners. Williams said he was just as inspirational then as he is now with the Eagles, stressing to Williams to use his platform as a Black quarterback.

“It was, there’s not many like us — you know, in our position, and who we are and you know, skin tone and all these things,” Williams said Tuesday after the Bears’ walk-through. “There’s not many like us. And so just being able to understand the opportunity that we have and I have to maximize that and put myself in the best opportunity possible. It was kind of that type of talk …

“He’s kinda, pretty motivational.”

Hurts led the nation in touchdown passes for the 2019 Sooners after transferring from Alabama, and Williams played for the 2021 Oklahoma team before leaving for USC.

The two will face off Friday for the first time.

Williams’ latest test in a season full of them comes as a particularly important time for the second-year quarterback, given the frustrations with his accuracy Sunday against the Steelers.
Amid their slump, the Eagles are still 8-3 and have some dangerous players on offense. A resurgence seems inevitable.
The Bears face the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles this week.
