Bears sign former 49ers and Giants CB Nick McCloud

The Bears added to their cornerback depth on Monday, signing Nick McCloud to a one-year deal.

McCloud spent last season with the Giants and 49ers and has appeared in 48 games since starting off as an undrafted free agent in 2021. He spent his first season with the Bengals and has made 16 career NFL starts.

He went to Notre Dame for one season after starting his college career at North Carolina State.

If McCloud makes the Bears roster, it will be because of special teams. McCloud has appeared in at least 46% of his team’s kicking downs in all but one of his seasons. He played on special teams in a career-high 76% of the Giants’ snaps in 2023.

The Bears’ starting lineup is set at cornerback, with Jaylon Johnson, Tyrique Stevenson and Kyler Gordon slotted in the three spots. Gordon plays the nickel slot cornerback position.

Latest on the Bears
The Bears took on contracts totaling more than $200 million over the next three years with an eye on making major upgrades. They need those players to be productive, or they’ll repeat the equation that sunk former GM Ryan Pace.
She worked with current Bears president/CEO Kevin Warren at the conference.
Jenkins’ return to the Bears was unlikely even before the team traded for guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson earlier this month.
