Bears up 14-0 on bumbling Browns at halftime as QB Caleb Williams appears to get hurt on final play

The Bears are cruising against the Browns, who are doing plenty to help them, and lead 14-0 at halftime in a game that began with the temperature at 8 degrees. Quarterback Caleb Williams, though, appeared to hurt his left leg on the final play of the half.

With three seconds left and the Bears at the Browns’ 42-yard line, Williams threw a 12-yard pass to Luther Burden and took a hit on the play. He hopped to the sideline and made it to the locker room without help.

The offense struggled on its first drive, but scored touchdowns on the next two and had a chance at more points, but Cairo Santos missed wide right on a 35-yard field goal.

Williams completed 12 of 18 passes for 190 yards and a touchdown pass in the first half for a 120.1 passer rating. On third-and-goal from the Browns’ 3-yard line, Williams hit wide receiver DJ Moore in the back left corner on the end zone for a 14-0 lead with 1:29 left in the first quarter.

Browns star defensive end Myles Garrett sacked Williams on third-and-goal just before Santos’ kick, pushing his season total to 21 sacks. He needs 22 1/2 to tie the NFL single-season record held by the Giants’ Michael Strahan and the Steelers’ T.J. Watt.

Running back D’Andre Swift has had a strong game as well with nine carries for 42 yards and a touchdown. He scored on a six-yard run in the first quarter.

Burden is the Bears’ leading receiver with five catches for 78 yards, and tight end Colston Loveland has three for 54. Moore has three catches for 47 yards.

The Browns and quarterback Shadeur Sanders have been a wreck. The team has 57 yards of total offense and one first down, and Sanders has completed 4 of 10 passes for 54 yards.

The Browns will get the ball to begin the second half.
