GREEN BAY, Wis. — Bears interim coach Thomas Brown will interview for the permanent head coaching position, general manager Ryan Poles said Sunday.
“He will get an interview and I’m excited to hear his thoughts,” Poles said on the team’s official pregame show on ESPN 1000. “Because he’s been here, he’s seen and reflected — just like we have — on the past and how we got to this. …
“I’m excited to hear from his side how we got here and how he would fix it. What are the solutions to some issues we had this year?”
It was long assumed that the Bears would interview Brown, who was promoted from pass game coordinator to offensive coordinator and then from coordinator to interim head coach. Brown is 0-4 as the team’s head coach entering Sunday’s season finale against the rival Packers. He’s considered a long-shot candidate to get the permanent job.
Brown will conduct exit interviews with players on Monday and figures to interview later in the week. The Bears can only interview candidates employed by NFL teams virtually for the next two weeks. Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores and Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury are among the candidates they’ll target.
Most years, a season this bad would land the team a higher pick, but at least the Bears have two second-rounders.

Caleb Williams is an upgrade from Mitch Trubisky and Justin Fields, but still has a long way to go to become the elite quarterback the Bears are looking for. Coaching failed, but general manager Ryan Poles had the worst season of all.

Bears quarterbacks are measured by what they do against the Packers. In his first game at Lambeau Field, Williams measured up when it mattered.
