Beverage maker moves headquarters to downtown Oakland

OAKLAND — Beverage company Yerba Madre has leased part of a historic building in downtown Oakland in a deal that provides a lift to a struggling East Bay office market.

With the deal, the company will move its headquarters from Sebastopol in Sonoma County to 1910 Broadway in the Uptown district. The lease was arranged by commercial real estate firms CBRE and Cushman and Wakefield.

Yerba Madre leased 16,700 square feet in the Tapscott Building, a century-old building that was constructed in 1920.

CBRE broker Daniel Bisabri represented Yerba Madre in its relocation, and Cushman & Wakefield brokers Grant Jones and Elizabeth Bott represented the building’s owner.

“The Tapscott Building’s creative environment and prime Uptown location made it the clear choice for Yerba Madre’s headquarters relocation,” Jones said.

The building underwent a wide-ranging renovation in 2021. In 2023, the California Preservation Foundation recognized the quality of the revamp through an award.

The transaction represents relatively rare good news for the downtown Oakland office market. The downtown Oakland office vacancy rate was 28.3% in the July-through-September third quarter of 2025, reported Colliers, a commercial real estate firm.

Founded in 1996, Yerba Madre produces most of its beverages in cans and bottled brews.

“Yerba Madre is about much more than yerba mate,” the company states on its website. “We believe in the power of sharing and connecting through this plant and spreading yerba mate culture as an invitation to personal, social, ecological, and cultural regeneration.”
