Bicyclist killed in collision with SUV in the Loop

A bicyclist was killed in a collision with an SUV early Monday in the Loop.

About 4:55 a.m., the 18-year-old cyclist on a Divvy bike was riding in the 100 block of North Michigan Avenue with friends when he rode into the path of and struck a GMC SUV going in the opposite direction, Chicago police said.

Video obtained by police showed the cyclist going against a red light when the collision happened, according to a report obtained by the Sun-Times.

The cyclist was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead, police said.

The 65-year-old driver from southwest suburban Frankfort was cited and refused medical attention at the scene, police said.
