SAN JOSE – Crews on Monday night battled a vegetation fire near the Eggo waffle plant in San Jose.
The blaze broke out around 6:05 p.m. at Watson Park, according to the San Jose Fire Department. A large plume of white smoke was visible from southbound Highway 101.
Because of embers from the fire, additional firefighters were requested to help protect structures on nearby Eggo Way.
“No structures involved at this time,” the fire department said in a social media post shortly after 7 p.m.
Just before 8 p.m., the fire department reported the blaze was in the mop-up phase.
“Extensive work expected,” the fire department said in the follow-up social media post. “Excavator being requested to break up large mulch piles.”
The fire was placed under control by 8:07 p.m.
