A Blue Island man already accused of punching a woman at the Loyola Red Line CTA station last month is now facing a slew of new charges for similar attacks, nearly all of which happened near North Side CTA train stations, most recently on Wednesday and Thursday.
Derek Rucker, 37, was charged with three counts of aggravated battery to a transit employee or passenger, two counts of aggravated battery in a public place and aggravated battery to a peace officer, all of which are felonies, Chicago police said.
The most recent attack was Thursday in the 500 block of North State Street, near the Grand Avenue Red Line stop, where Rucker allegedly battered a 44-year-old woman in her face, causing her to fall to the ground, police said.
On Wednesday in the 4600 block of North Broadway near the Wilson Red Line stop, he battered a 40-year-old woman, according to police.
On Sept. 30, he is accused of punching an on-duty police officer in Evanston in the 300 block of North Ridge Avenue.
On Sept. 21, Rucker allegedly attacked a 27-year-old woman in the 900 block of West Belmont Avenue near the Belmont Red Line station.
Rucker now faces new felony charges in a Sept. 30 attack against a 23-year-old woman in the 1200 block of West Loyola Avenue near the Loyola Red Line station. In that incident, he was earlier only charged with misdemeanors.
Rucker was slated to appear for a detention hearing at the Leighton Criminal Court Building.
