Body found in Arkansas River amid search for missing teenager

Otero County officials on Tuesday night recovered a body from the Arkansas River amid the search for a teenager who went missing in the river last week.

Devlin Cambeul, 19, went missing on the river in the early morning of Wednesday, June 12 and search and rescue crews have not been able to find his body, sheriff’s officials said Friday. Officials have not yet confirmed the body they found is Cambeul.

Just after 10 p.m. Tuesday, the Otero County Sheriff’s Office announced in a statement on social media that a body had been found in the river just north of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railyard near La Junta.

Deputies responded to reports of a body in the river around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, the sheriff’s office said.

Otero County sheriff’s deputies, crews from the La Junta Fire Department, the Otero County Coroner, Otero Emergency Manager and members of the 16th Judicial District Attorney’s Office responded to assist in the recovery.
