Body found in search for 12-year-old boy last seen going into river in Richmond

A body has been found by police searching for a 12-year-old boy who was last seen going into the River Swale in Yorkshire.

The family of the child have been informed following the discovery in Richmond last night.

Reports were initially received at 5pm on Saturday evening that the boy had not been seen since he entered the river.

Officers said they had recovered a child’s body at 10.45pm.

No other details about the missing child have been released beyond his age.

North Yorkshire Police said: ‘The body is yet to be identified but the boy’s family have been informed and are receiving support from specially-trained officers.

They added: ‘We are not treating the death as suspicious and we are not in a position to share any further information at this time.’

Specialist search teams had been sent to the area earlier in the day to assist police and Fire and Rescue teams.
