A shooting has taken place at a popular beach destination in Sydney, Australia.
Gunfire was heard at Bondi Beach after a man was seen stepping out from a car at Campbell Parade, according to video footage from the scene.
Two people have been arrested.
Hundreds of people are believed to be in the area, Aussie news channel 9News reports.
Randwick resident Elizabeth Mealey told ABC that she was having dinner with friends when they heard gunshots.
She said: ‘We thought it was fireworks, but it wasn’t – it was something much worse.
‘People started running right up the beach. It was panic, and the panic spread to Icebergs, and people are standing around still not knowing what’s going on, so it’s scary.’
Police have urged beachgoers to avoid the area, adding: ‘Anyone at the scene should take shelter.’
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s office said the PM is aware of an ‘active security situation’.
