Boo at the L.A. Zoo is back for another year. This fun Halloween event takes place this weekend, October 18-19, and next weekend, October 25-26, with hundreds of guests expected. “Boo at the L.A. Zoo has been a guest favorite daytime event for over 15 years,” said a Los Angeles Zoo spokesperson.

From 10 am to 3 pm, these two “fang-tastic” weekends will be filled with activities, including a trick-or-treat station, animal feeding demonstrations, children’s book readings, science experiments and more. Boo at the L.A. Zoo is open to guests of all ages, and Halloween costumes are encouraged.

At “zookeeper chats,” experts will share fun facts about incredible zoo animals like Aldabra tortoises, Tasmanian devils and Cape vultures. “They are misunderstood as scary animals when in reality, they have interesting adaptations that help them to move, eat, grow, and hunt successfully,” said a Los Angeles Zoo spokesperson. “Showcasing these animals provides guests with a fun way to learn more about important species and their role in our ecosystem.”

In addition to all the creepy crawly fun, zoo officials hope to educate the public about environmental sustainability.

“To help reduce waste, guests are encouraged to bring their own trick-or-treat bags or purchase one at the Zoo’s International Marketplace,” the L.A. Zoo’s spokesperson said. Conservation and partner organizations including Friends of the California Condor, Los Angeles Bat Rescue, Southwestern Herpetologists Society, San Dimas Canyon Nature Center, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Office of Law Enforcement will be on site “to connect and engage with our guests.”
