Boy, 12, killed in hit and run involving a BMW

A 12-year-old boy has died after being knocked down in a hit-and-run.

The schoolboy was declared dead at the scene of the crash in Coventry yesterday afternoon.

Detectives tracked down a BMW believed to have been involved in the incident but are appealing for information to help find the occupants.

Sergeant Rich Evans said: ‘We would appeal to the driver or for any of the passengers who were in the vehicle to do the right thing and to contact us.

‘A 12-year-old boy has tragically lost his life and we need you to come forward and hand yourselves in.

‘We are helping to support the family at this very difficult time as they try to comprehend what has happened.’

Police cordoned off a number of city roads on Friday following the incident, which happened at around 4.30pm.

Officers are appealing for witnesses and anyone who may have doorbell or dashcam footage to come forward.

Anyone with information is urged to contact West Midlands Police.
