Boy, 15, arrested for assault after 16-year-old dies at amusement park

A 16-year-old boy has died at an amusement park in Wales.

The boy, named as Taha Soomro, was found suffering a medical episode at Barry Island Pleasure Park just before 5pm on Friday evening.

Taha, from Grangetown in Cardiff, was declared dead at the scene.

Now South Wales Police says a 15-year-old boy, also from Grangetown, has been arrested on suspicion of assault.

The suspect is currently in custody, and police are keeping Taha’s family up to date.

The force is investigating the death and has asked people not to speculate about the incident on social media.

They’re also asking anyone who was at Barry Island Pleasure Park or may have footage taken around the time of the incident to come forward.

A spokesperson for the park said: ‘Very sad news yesterday, all of our team did their best to assist the emergency services but unfortunately the boy suffered a medical emergency and could not be saved!

‘Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this very sad time.

‘Park remains open this morning 11am as usual.’
