A 6-year-old boy is hospitalized in critical condition after a U-Haul truck hit him as he darted into the street after a ball in the city’s Washington Park neighborhood Thursday night, police said.
The boy was playing near his home when a southbound U-Haul truck hit him about 7:10 p.m. in the 5900 block of South Prairie Avenue, according to a Chicago police report.
The boy was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, the report said.
The truck driver, a 20-year-old South Side woman, pulled over and was issued a citation for failure to use due care to avoid a pedestrian, according to the report.
The police major accidents unit is investigating.
