An ambulance arrived and rushed the gravely ill holidaymaker to Venizelio Hospital.

He remains in a critical condition in the intensive care unit.

Another British tourist was fighting for his life in the same Crete hospital just last week.

In a freak accident, he was crushed by a glass balcony that fell from a building.

The 49-year-old was walking down a street with his wife when strong winds dislodged a section of the balcony, according to local reports.

He suffered serious injuries to his body and head in the freak accident in Hersonissos, on the island’s northern coast.

Emergency workers rushed him to the Venizelio Hospital, reports outlet Protothema.

Doctors put him straight into surgery and had to remove his spleen

He needed a second urgent operation to treat his head injuries, according to the hospital’s director Kostas Dandoulakis.

The tourist has also suffered an injury to his spine – and is said to remain in a critical condition.

Meanwhile, a third Brit abroad was nearly killed when he plunged from a third-floor apartment in Ibiza last week.

The 19-year-old was rushed to hospital after being found unconscious on the pavement with severe injuries on Sunday evening.

The emergency services found the Brit after receiving an alert around 9:47pm on Sunday.

They rushed to the horrifying scene in San Antonio where paramedics were able to stabilise the teenager.

Medics then took him to the Can Misses Hospital where he was treated for head trauma and serious multiple injuries, as reported by the Ibiza and Formentera Health Area (Asef).

From there he was airlifted by helicopter to the Son Espases Hospital in Mallorca for further treatment.

The teenager remains in a very serious condition, doctors told Periodico de Ibiza.

It is thought that the Brit fell from the third floor of the Ibiza property above the street but the police are still looking into what happened.

A spokesman for the Civil Guard in Majorca said: “The causes behind what happened are being investigated.

“The man taken to hospital is British and 19.”

It is not yet known if he was on holiday on the island or living there.
