Two British hikers are missing in Majorca after disappearing in the mountains during a storm.

One of them, a 32-year-old man, is feared dead after a body was found during a search of the area where they went missing on the Spanish island.

No confirmation or further information has been released.

Shortly before the body was found, an emergency services spokesperson said this morning: ‘A search is ongoing for two hikers missing since last night in the vicinity of Torrent de Pareis in Escorca.’

Both tourists are believed to have been near this river in the Tramuntana mountain range on Majorca’s northwest coast, when heavy rain hit.

It’s one of the worst affected areas on the island, with hundreds of people found trapped when the nearby Torrent de Es Racó, in Escorca, overflowed.

Emergency services rescued them with the help of a helicopter.

Civil Guard officers and firefighters are trying the pinpoint the missing tourists’ phones after being given their numbers.

Worse storms expected today may hamper search efforts.
