A British woman was beaten to death with a sharp object at her home in southwestern France.

The woman, 65, was found by a friend lying near her vehicle with five stab wounds on Tuesday evening.

She was given CPR at the scene after going into cardiac arrest but was declared dead soon after ambulance crews arrived at 10.20pm.

The woman suffered injuries on her breast, groin, arm and leg.

‘Her wounds indicated a particularly violent attack and their locations showed an intention to kill,’ a local prosecutor said.

The woman had been living at her home on the outskirts of Trémolat, about 70 miles west of Borebeaux, for 10 years.

On the night of the killing, the woman had been with friends before returning home with a friend ‘with whom she had been in a relationship for several weeks’, preliminary information suggests.

He had trailed behind her by only 10 minutes when he found her ‘collapsed and unconscious’, according to franceinfo.
