Browns’ Myles Garrett one sack shy of tying NFL record

Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett had 1½ sacks against the Bears on Sunday, moving him within one sack of tying the NFL’s single-season record.

The Giants’ Michael Strahan and the Steelers’ T.J. Watt share the record, with 22½. Strahan set the mark in 2001 and Watt tied him 20 years later.

Garrett sacked Caleb Williams in the second quarter and got credit for one-half of a sack in the fourth quarter in the 31-3 Bears win at Soldier Field.

Garrett seems destined to set the record at some point this season — he has three games left to play.

He had the Bears’ full attention leading up to Sunday. During the game, the Bears chipped him with tight ends and running backs most of the time.

“He has a deep bag of tricks,” quarterback Caleb Williams said Tuesday. “And when somebody is as well-polished as he is throughout the NFL, and throughout his years in the NFL, that’s what makes him so … That’s what makes him Myles Garrett.”

He had 1 1/2 sacks against the Bears on Sunday at Soldier Field.
The rookie’s career day was interrupted by an ankle injury.
It was tied for the fourth-coldest Bears game ever at Soldier Field.
