A burned body found near a trail Wednesday morning in Wheaton has been identified as a missing man from the west suburb, police said.
A person walking on the Lincoln Marsh trail noticed a fire in the marsh and found the body about 7:20 a.m. Wednesday, Wheaton police said.
Also on Wednesday, a missing person report was filed for a 56-year-old male Wheaton resident “determined to be endangered due to concerning text messages that displayed suicidal ideations,” Wheaton police said in a statement. “Both investigations were carried out simultaneously, and evidence was discovered that led investigators to believe the deceased individual located in Lincoln Marsh was the missing person.”
No foul play is suspected. Police said there is no known danger to the community.
“At this time, there is no information to indicate that this was a crime of violence or that any other individuals were involved in this tragic incident,” Chief P.J. Youker said in the statement. “Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the deceased during this trying time. I would like to thank the community for their patience and our policing professionals for their work to provide some answers to a grieving family.”
Police are not releasing the name of the man out of respect for his family.
