Bush singer Gavin Rossdale snuggles with adoptable pets at East Valley Animal Shelter
Bush singer Gavin Rossdale visited the East Valley Animal Shelter in Van Nuys on Monday — the same shelter where he adopted his dog Kaya — to “play with, snuggle, and read to the shelter’s homeless dogs and cats,” officials said.
While he was there, the 60-year-old Rossdale unveiled his campaign for PETA, which encourages everyone to give other animals the same second chance he gave Kaya.
The singer made an accompanying video for the animal rights group, in which he debunks myths about animals from shelters, pointing out that while some may have faced hardship, all they need is “a kind reversal back to life” — just like he gave Kaya — to become wonderful companions.
“Please don’t buy from breeders,” Rossdale says, “and please consider going to a shelter because those animals really, really need you, and the bond you will get and the rewards are immeasurable.”
According to PETA, “U.S. shelters are bursting at the seams, and every time a breeder sells a puppy, a dog waiting in an animal shelter or struggling to survive on the streets loses a chance at finding a loving home.”

Los Angeles has been hit particularly hard by the animal overpopulation crisis in recent years, exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic and January’s destructive wildfires.
The city’s six shelters are more than 250 dogs over capacity, according to numbers posted on the Los Angeles Animal Services website last weekend.
