Café Beaujolais in Eagle Rock announces closure after 25 years

After 25 years in business, Café Beaujolais in Eagle Rock, a restaurant known for its French cuisine, will close its doors for good on July 1.

“It’s been a pleasure serving the Eagle Rock community for 25 years, but unfortunately, we cannot afford to stay open any longer,” said a post on the restaurant’s Instagram page on Thursday, June 20. “The next week and a half is your last chance to enjoy some classic French cuisine prepared by chef Norbert, who has been with us since the beginning. Hope to see you all soon.”

Café Beaujolais was known for its authentic French fare, served by staff who spoke French and enjoyed by the Francophiles of Eagle Rock. “Everything French, even the attitude,” the restaurant boasted. The menu featured classic staples like Coq Au Vin, Escargots De Bourgogne, and Le Poulet Dijonais. Patrons who frequented the spot for date nights and anniversaries described its ambiance as cozy and intimate, swooning in online reviews over the candlelit tables and resident piano player who classed the place up throughout the week and on weekends.

Chef Norbert headed Cafe Beaujolais’ kitchen for over 20 years, and his sister Caroline joined the crew after the cafe reopened post-pandemic. According to the restaurant’s social media pages, together they have over 100 years of experience in the kitchen.

Several patrons took to the restaurant’s Instagram page to voice their despair at hearing the news about the closure.

“This makes me very sad,” wrote Pamela Brull. “Thank you for serving our community for 25 years. It certainly doesn’t feel that long. You brought class to Eagle Rock.”

“Merci d’avoir été une présence française an Eagle Rock. Bonne chance,” wrote Rimona Seay. The comment translates to “Thanks for being a French presence in Eagle Rock. Good luck.”

Even one of Café Beaujolais’s former resident piano players commented and said he was sorry to hear the sad news.
