Adam Beckerink, whose wife was found dead outside his South Loop apartment building last year, plead no contest in a Michigan domestic violence case, meaning there will be no trial, ABC7 reported.
The death of Beckerink’s wife, Caitlin Tracey, is still under investigation by the Cook County medical examiner’s office, and Beckerink hasn’t been charged in connection with her death. She was found dead in a stairwell outside Beckerink’s apartment Oct. 27, 2024, of an apparent fall from roughly 20 stories, authorities said.
Beckerink pleaded no contest to domestic violence charges at a Berrien County, Michigan, courthouse Friday, ABC7 reported. He pleaded guilty to one count of contempt for violating bond, and resisting arrest charges were dropped as part of the agreement.
In June, a judge ruled body camera footage that shows Tracey crying after calling 911 and Beckerink struggling with police could be shown at trial. But now, the trial won’t happen after Beckerink pleaded no contest. Pleading no contest means the defendant accepts a conviction but doesn’t admit guilt.
In court, the Berrien County judge reminded Beckerink that the no contest plea will be treated as a guilty plea when he is sentenced, according to ABC7. The sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 20.
