SANTA CLARA COUNTY – Cal Fire crews on Wednesday afternoon were battling brush fires near the San Luis Reservoir and in southeastern San Benito County.
The blaze near the reservoir, dubbed the Dino Fire, ignited just before 3 p.m. near eastbound Highway 152 and Dinosaur Point Road in Santa Clara County, according to Cal Fire. As of 4:45 p.m., the fire had consumed 150 acres and was 10% contained.
Wind and terrain were playing a “significant role” in the spread of the fire, Cal Fire said in an incident update.
The other fire was burning to the south in San Benito County, according to Cal Fire.
The Little Fire broke out just before 2 p.m. near the intersection of Little Panoche and Yturriarte roads in Panoche. As of 4:45 p.m., the blaze had charred 150 acres and was 30% contained.
Cal Fire said the fire was burning in grass with a moderate rate of spread and posing a threat to a solar farm.
The cause of both fires is under investigation.
