Cannes Film Festival hit by ‘malicious’ outage hours before closing ceremony

‘Malicious acts’ have been blamed for a major electricity outage across southern France on the last day of the 78th Cannes Film Festival.
Authorities have confirmed that the blackout in large parts of the French Riviera is not a technical failure but the result of suspected sabotage.
The cause of the power cut, which began just after 10.00 am (8am GMT), was a fire in a substation in the nearby village of Tanneron.
Police sources, who asked not to be named, told AFP this was probably an arson attack.
Although power was restored after the incident, the network remained fragile.
‘A major power outage is currently affecting the western Alpes-Maritimes region. RTE services are currently working to restore the situation,’ the Alpes-Maritimes prefecture stated.
