Cary man tried to kidnap two teen girls before shooting himself, police say

A man took his own life shortly after he tried to kidnap two teenage girls Tuesday in northwest suburban Cary, according to police.

Two teen girls were walking near Fox River Road and North Harvest Glen Road around 3:25 p.m. when a car pulled in front of them and the driver got out wearing a mask, the Lake County Sheriff’s office said.

The girls ran home and one of the girls told her father and brother what had happened, the sheriff’s office said.

The girl’s father and brother left their home to look for the driver and found the 32-year-old man driving through the neighborhood. The man pulled his car in front of the father and brother and brandished a gun, the sheriff’s office said.

The father and brother called 911 and a McHenry County Sheriff’s deputy who was nearby found the armed man. The deputy attempted to pull over the man who drove into the parking lot of Fel-Pro RRR Conservation Area in Cary.

The driver then pulled out a gun and fatally shot himself, the sheriff’s office said.

The McHenry County Conservation District Police Department is investigating the death, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident that occurred prior.
