A shopping giant says it will take action after a listing for a shirt included the likeness of a murder suspect.

The $9.59 ‘ditsy floral shirt’ listed on Shein’s website ordinarily would not have raised any eyebrows – except it appeared to be modelled by Luigi Mangione.

Mangione is accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December last year. He denies murder as well as stalking and firearm charges.

On first glance of the listing a viewer might think it was just another brown haired, thick-browed man – but the similarities between the listing and existing pictures of Mangione have led to speculation that the listing picture could be AI generated.

Shein, a Chinese-owned company, has not revealed which of its vendors submitted the image to them.

The shirt listing has since been taken off their website, but it’s not known how long the image was in use before it was spotted.

A spokesperson for Shein said: ‘The image in question was provided by a third-party vendor and was removed immediately upon discovery.

‘We have stringent standards for all listings on our platform.

‘We are conducting a thorough investigation, strengthening our monitoring processes, and will take appropriate action against the vendor in line with our policies.’
