The Hotline is delighted to provide college football fans with a regular dive into the recruiting process through the eyes and ears of Brandon Huffman, the Seattle-based national recruiting editor for 247Sports. He submitted the following report on April 24 …
Greene goes purple
For the last few years, Oregon has been a thorn in Washington’s side when it came to recruiting offensive lineman from the Evergreen State.
Three years ago, Josh Conerly Jr. spurned his hometown Huskies to sign with Oregon, where he became an All-American and 2025 first-round draft choice (by Washington).
Last year, Demetri Manning, a Bellevue native, committed to the Ducks just 10 days after his official visit to Washington — and eventually signed with Oregon.
And just eight months ago, Kodi Greene, who played two years for Eastside Catholic High School in Sammamish, Washington, committed to the Ducks.
But the chance to play for his hometown team — and reunite with his older brother, Kayden, a freshman defensive back for the Huskies — kept Greene interested in UW.
When Washington hired director of scouting Marcus Griffin away from Cal, the long-time relationship between Greene and Griffin nudged the Huskies that much closer to landing their coveted lineman.
After Greene returned to the Pacific Northwest over the weekend to visit his brother (and Montlake), the Huskies moved to the brink of the biggest recruiting win for second-year coach Jedd Fisch.
On Thursday, it became reality: The Huskies flipped Greene from Oregon.
He’s the highest-rated UW commit in five classes and the program’s top-rated offensive line pledge in years. Also, he’s one of the five best offensive tackles in the country.
The flip comes with a second benefit for Washington in that it cripples Oregon’s offensive line class and continues a disturbing couple months for the Ducks: Greene is their third commitment to switch to another Big Ten school.
They lost quarterback commit Jonas Williams along with Greene’s teammate, Tomuhini Topui, to USC.
But more importantly, Greene gives Fisch a signature recruit in his second full recruiting class.
Fisch lands his passer
While all eyes were on Greene’s visit to Washington, the Huskies received more good news over the weekend.
Quarterback Derek Zammit, who played in the 2025 Under Armour All-America Game as a junior, pledged to Washington over Alabama (and old friend Kalen DeBoer).
A four-star prospect in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings, Zammit required the Huskies to cross the country, to New Jersey, to secure the commitment.
Offensive coordinator Jimmie Dougherty had honed in on Zammit and four-star prospect Brady Smigiel, who’s from California, but the final push landed Zammit.
Beehivers to BYU
Speaking of former Oregon pledges, Brigham Young landed a huge one in Bott Mulitalo.
The American Fork, Utah, product is a top 100 player nationally — the second BYU has corralled this month.
Mulitalo was committed to Oregon but opened things up earlier in the spring when the Ducks wanted him to play defensive line; Mulitalo has designs on the other side of scrimmage.
He wasn’t the only Beehive State commitment this week. The Cougars also landed a pledge from athlete Legend Glasker, a top-25 recruit from the state in the 2026 class.
Sun Devils’ big weekend
After a dream season in 2024 that saw Arizona State win the Big 12, recruiting success has soared. This weekend offers a major chance for the Sun Devils to capitalize on that momentum.
They will host 15 prospects, the first of two straight weekends of double-digit visitors.
Several of them have already committed, like in-state pledge Zeth Thues, the first Arizona native to commit to Arizona State this cycle, four-star quarterback Jake Fette and four-star tight end Hayden Vercher.
But key uncommitted targets are expected in Tempe, as well, like the trio of four-star recruits from Texas: defensive lineman Jamario Carlton, receiver Kaydon Finley and athlete Paris Melvin Jr.
Georgia receiver Nalin Scott and California linebacker Ezaya Tokio will be there, too.
Arizona State has a big chance for a big weekend.
Momentum on the Farm
For all the twists and turns this spring has produced at Stanford — and that includes losing touted quarterback recruit Bear Bachmeier to the transfer portal just four months after he signed a letter-of-intent — there have been some positives.
The Cardinal recently reeled in a commitment from New York, receiver Jacob Butler. A top-five prospect from the Empire State, he’s a nice addition to the program, which is led by general manager Andrew Luck.
They also offered scholarships to a pair of receivers with NFL bloodlines: Phoenix (Arizona) Brophy Prep teammates Daylen Sharper, the son of former Pro Bowl safety Darren Sharper, and Devin Fitzgerald, the son of future first-ballot Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald.
This weekend, the Cardinal will host the No. 1 recruit in Colorado, Tufanua Ionatana Umu-Cais, a defensive lineman from Cherry Creek High School.
