The Chicago Fishing Advisory Committee faces another challenge. Stacey Greene-Fenlon, first woman and non-governmental person to chair the committee, announced that she is stepping down after the November meeting for personal and professional reasons.
“I’m hoping someone else can and will step up and take over,” she emailed. “I will definitely keep working on behalf of this committee and our fishing community to do whatever I can to help.”
The September committee meeting is at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at the 31st Street Harbor Community Room. Any questions, email Chiagofishingadvisory@gmail.com.
The day after her announcement came a reminder why the committee matters. Nightmare Fishing’s Wayne Hankins called with issues about increased parking costs at 63rd Street, which hits the old guard particularly hard, and wondered if anything can be done to get an anglers’ parking lot at 63rd, similar to the ones downtown at DuSable Harbor and Northerly Island. That’s a topic for the committee.
Nightmare Fishing’s “King of the Pier Tournament” is Saturday, Sept. 20, beginning with sign-in at 6:30 a.m. at 63rd.
