Chicago firefighter awarded car, $25,000 as part of Drake’s ‘Drizzmas Giveaway’

On Thursday, rapper Drake returned to his acting roots for perhaps his most meaningful role yet: Santa Claus.

Hosting the online “Drizzmas Giveaway” with Kick streamer Adin Ross, the star doled out hundreds of thousands of dollars, concert tickets, vacations and other gifts to several lucky fans, including a Chicago firefighter.

Broadcasting live from his Kick account, the Canadian emcee first surprised the firefighter, identified as “Ryan,” with a video call. Then, he delivered even more good news: He was giving him a car and $25,000.

“Don’t tell me that, Drake,” said the firefighter and father of three, who was visibly emotional. “Thank you so much, man.”

Drake, aka “Drizzy,” called the firefighter a hero.

“What you’re doing for your family is amazing,” the rapper said.

The Chicago Fire Department did not immediately respond to a Sun-Times request to confirm the firefighter’s identity.

Drake and Ross hosted the giveaway in partnership with online casino Stake.com. Fans were encouraged to enter by sending an email explaining why they deserved to win. Drake read a portion of the message from the firefighter, who said he was struggling financially and falling behind on car payments.

“As much as I would love a vacation for two or your concert for two, my children come first,” the firefighter wrote. “I hope my submission is considered, but as a Drake fan, I think it’s great that you do this, and your fans like my wife and myself respect you for doing so.”

Other “Drizzmas Giveaway” gifts included a G-Wagon, $250,000 cash prizes, a vacation to Disney World, a trip to see Drake perform in Australia, and a year’s worth of rent.

“This is the best feeling in the world,” Drake said. “A lot of people want to help their families. A lot of people want to do a lot of great things, and we’re going to help them do it.”
