HELP REDUX
Graffiti art on a pillar of Warner Bridge over the Kankakee River.
Akiko Spencer, a sports page design editor for the Sun-Times, noted my question last week about some graffiti art on Warner Bridge over the Kankakee River. “Looks like it is inspired by my favorite street artist, Banksy, specifically the piece called `Girl with Balloon,’ ” he emailed. “He is England-based and his identity remains a mystery, which is part of his art and what makes him so popular. I’m sure the work on the bridge is not his, but a fellow artist using his imagery and making it their own with the fishing pole.”
Now the mystery who is the local artist.
“Girl With Balloon” was among the 80 works by the mysterious English street artist known as Banksy, in the hugely anticipated exhibit “The Art of Banksy,” in 2021 at 360 N. State in Chicago. The original works are from private collections and rarely or never before seen by the public. The exhibit ran through Oct. 31.
