Notes come from around Chicago outdoors and beyond.
MUSHROOM OF THE WEEK
John Henry photographed yellow oyster mushrooms on the North Side on Tuesday, Aug. 19. He noted, “Probably sprouted up after all the rain the past couple of days.” I think he is right. Other mushroom photos came in during the days after his arrived.
MOTW, the celebration of mushrooms around Chicago outdoors, runs as apt in the special two-page outdoors section in the Sun-Times Sports Sunday. FISH OF THE WEEK
How about a salute to young anglers with a summer favorite, a sort of back-to-school special.
Lauren Harvey nominated her 7-year-old son Brixton Harvey for catching a 4-pound, 21-inch largemouth bass on night crawlers. He caught it during the monthly “Family Fishing Days” at Lake Katherine in Palos Heights.
Joel Przybylowski nominated a his son Benji Przybylowski for “[snagging] (literally) a largemouth near the rapids at River Park in Chicago” on Aug. 14.
