Chicago outdoors: End-of-summer youth & largemouth, mushrooms responding to the rains

Notes come from around Chicago outdoors and beyond.

MUSHROOM OF THE WEEK

John Henry photographed yellow oyster mushrooms on the North Side on Tuesday, Aug. 19. He noted, “Probably sprouted up after all the rain the past couple of days.” I think he is right. Other mushroom photos came in during the days after his arrived.
