Clippers trade Norman Powell, acquire John Collins in 3-team deal

The Clippers reportedly have agreed to send Norman Powell to the Miami Heat in a three-team trade that brings John Collins to Los Angeles and Kevin Love, Kyle Anderson and a 2027 Clippers second-round pick to the Utah Jazz.

Powell was entering the final year of his $20.48 million contract and the Clippers apparently were reluctant to give him a long-term extension with Kawhi Leonard and James Harden signed through the 2026-2027 season, signifying their desire to free up cap space in 2027.

Powell moved into a starting role last season after Paul George signed a free-agent deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, a position Powell had desired in his three years with the Clippers. He averaged 21.8 points on 48.4% shooting, including 41.8% from 3-point range.

The explosive guard won an NBA title with Leonard in Toronto and came close to earning his first All-Star nod this past season.

Collins posted 19.0 points and 8.2 rebounds in 40 games with the Jazz in an injury-plagued season. If he can stay healthy, the 6-foot-9 forward will give the Clippers athleticism, size and much-needed youth in their frontcourt.

More to come on this story.
