Buried in the set times released by the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on Saturday were two big nuggets of news: Weezer will join the festival for a set the first weekend, with Ed Sheeran doing the same for the second weekend.
It’s not unusual for Coachella set times to include a change or two in the lineup. A year ago, they included the late addition of Vampire Weekend to the festival.
This year Weezer will perform in the Mojave Tent from 3:10 p.m. to 3:55 p.m. on Saturday, April 12. Sheeran, meanwhile, will play on the same stage from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 19.
Coachella also lost one of our 15 most-anticipated artists when British singer FKA Twigs announced several hours before the set times dropped that she was pulling out of the festival due to visa issues that have scuttled other North American tour dates, too.
Other bits and pieces revealed in the announcement on Saturday included when and where rapper Travis Scott would appear after initially being listed on the post as a special guest. Turns out fans will have to stay up late for Scott, who will take over the main stage at midnight both Saturdays after headliner Green Day plays from 9:05 p.m. to 10:45 p.m.
Friday headliner Lady Gaga is scheduled to take over the main stage at 11:10 p.m. each Friday, while Sunday headliner Post Malone is the early bird special with a 10:25 p.m. start time on that stage on both Sundays.
Other artists of note who are now pinned down to a time and place on the festival grounds include breakout star Charli XCX who plays the main stage at 7:15 p.m. both Saturday, Gustavo Dudamel and the LA Phil who play the Outdoor Theatre at 6:25 p.m. both Saturdays, and Missy Elliott, who’ll provide the perfect lead-in to Lady Gaga when she hits the main stage at 9 p.m. both Fridays.
