Westminster officers originally responded to reports of a possible domestic violence incident in the 12000 block of Melody Drive around 8 p.m. Saturday, according to a news release from the Westminster Police Department.

The caller provided a description of the suspect vehicle, but by the time officers arrived in the area, it was gone, police said. Officers alerted nearby agencies of the car’s description.

A short time later, the Thornton Police Department received a call from 12000 block of Colorado Boulevard about a woman who had been shot in a car matching the description of the vehicle officers were searching for in Westminster, police said in the news release.

The woman died from her injuries at a nearby hospital, police said. Gladney was later located and taken into custody.

Gladney will remain in custody at the Adams County Detention Facility, and his preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 30 in Adams County District Court, the DA’s office said.

The 36-year-old has a criminal history in Weld County, according to court records. He’s previously pleaded guilty to running from the police, property damage, child abuse and multiple counts of assault.

In May, Gladney was arrested on suspicion of felony menacing and multiple weapons charges, according to court records.

He posted bail — $27,500 — on June 3 and was awaiting a June 11 hearing when he was arrested for murder. The case is still active — although his Aug. 1 advisement hearing was vacated, two review hearings for these charges are scheduled for July 18 and Oct. 18.
