Colorado Springs police shoot, injure two people, department says

A Colorado Springs officer shot and injured two people after responding to a call about a burglary Thursday evening, said officials with the city’s police department Friday.

The Colorado Springs Police Department received a call at 11:28 p.m. about a burglary potentially involving a gun in the 500 block of South Nevada Avenue east of downtown, according to the agency.

Three people came out of the apartment when officers arrived, including a man with a rifle. He raised the gun toward an officer, according to the department.

The officer fired multiple shots, hitting a man and a woman. Both were injured with at least one gunshot wound and were transported to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, according to the department.

The agency said the burglary suspect was taken into custody, but did not immediately say whether the person was injured in the shooting. The department has not yet identified the suspect nor the people injured.

The Colorado Springs incident is at least the second police shooting to occur within a matter of hours in Colorado. Denver officers killed a burglary suspect Friday morning.
