Democratic Congressmembers Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) and Eric Swalwell (D-CA) are two of the most vocal Donald Trump antagonists in Washington. Yet Swalwell recently found himself praising Crockett for her silence, as she appears unperturbed in a highly stylized campaign video while audio plays of Trump insulting her, repeatedly calling the Congresswoman and law school graduate a “low IQ” person.
Swalwell’s praise and Crockett’s history suggest the silence is only temporary, a sort of calm before the storm.
“And that’s just her taking Trump’s incoming. Wait until she gives it back,” Swalwell writes of the video, which ends with Crockett turning to face the camera and crossing her arms.

Both Swalwell and Crockett are vying for bigger jobs with bigger megaphones — Crockett’s silence ad is for her Senate campaign and Swalwell is running for Governor of California — also largely on an anti-Trump platform. His campaign video below vows to protect Californians from what he characterizes as Trump’s overreach.

Crockett, who has become a star in the Democratic party for her sharp-tongued rebukes of Trump and — notably — former MAGA star Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), faces long odds of winning a Senate seat in Texas, where a Democrat hasn’t won a statewide election in decades.
In the X comments Crockett gets bombarded with insults from Republicans that echo those that Trump hurls — and worse — but even Democrats are expressing wariness about her candidacy, especially as Crockett seems unlikely to collect many votes from the center.
One Democrat who doesn’t see Texas as a lost cause if the right candidate steps up, wrote of Crockett’s bid: “She is going to get destroyed if she is the nominee. Dems need every Senate seat we can get if we want to take back the Supreme Court. No time for foolishness. Too much is at stake.”
